If there is anything I appreciate more than good art, it's good thinking man's art and this certainly falls into that category!
I've always been a fan of surrealism and a fan of medical illustration and this work falls into both genres easily. The fact that Gromkyo has taken time to depict the raging effects of a modern concern and dedicated it to the people in the country suffering most from those effects shows his compassion and his responsibility as a world citizen.
The work, with it's sweeping geometric figures in conjunction with the very organic, interwoven portions depicts a conflict between an invading virus and the human body's defense system. We are reminded that this is a battle that has raged since the beginning of human history and that the threats of various diseases constantly evolve in their attacks against humanity.
I also found it relevant that the work is done in black and white and the high contrast of the work shows that in the battle at the cellular level there are no grey areas - our body either wins the fight and retains the knowledge of how to fight this enemy in the future, or it loses and the human organism succumbs to dehydration, fever and the ravages of disease.
In closing, I would like to say that this is a remarkable work and the fact that Gromyko dedicated it to the people of Mexico shows his great compassion and his heartfelt empathy with the suffering people a world away from him.
ohhh yes!!!! I´m working in B&W manips, I think the lack of color is because the sadness and depression mood...I´ve two more works in process, very darky and sexual explicit...
